Spider webs collect dew in a beautiful way!  Wetness actually hinders the web’s ability to snag prey… but it has inspired some researchers to examine the possibilities of collecting water in the air.  Check out the article at Nature. —photo by Jerod Skebo

A spider’s bristle-like hair, or “setae,” is actually an extension of its exoskeleton. Setae, found in all sorts of insects, can provide critical feedback on vibrations, temperature, humidity, and even smell! Check out some terrific (micrometer scale) close-ups at Tina Carvalho’s website.
